A Simple Path to Peace and Joy
What is a simple path to peace and joy?
So much of life is dedicated to achievements, duties and responsibilities, always striving to be the best. At the end of the day we are all too often burned out. Where is the joy and peace of life promised by all the great teachers?
Praise, thanksgiving, and simple greetings can be very effective in adding a dash of peace in your daily life. Each day there are many reasons to be thankful, to be full of praise and good cheer. It is so easy to do, you don’t need any qualifications to share greetings, praise and thanksgiving. Even if the environment is glum, just a simple thank you can produce a smile and a momentary feeling of peace. You may never know what a dash of sun could do for the glum stranger.
It has often been said that your life is based on your state of mind. As within, so without. Even if your daily life at the moment is broken, nevertheless, the simple saying of a thank you or a friendly smile to a stranger could be the beginning of a transformation for yourself.
Here are a couple of real examples:
The other morning I was in the office of Hear Canada having one of my hearing aids serviced. There was another man in the office also waiting for service. He remarked that hearing aids are great until they need help. We had a laugh, and then I commented how much I valued the service I was receiving in this office. At that moment the receptionist was coming back with my repaired hearing aid and overheard our conversation and smiled saying how much she appreciated our comments. As I turned to leave we were all smiling and laughing wishing each other a great day. For the rest of the morning I felt a warm glow.
When I make my weekly trips to Costco I am always surprised by how many customers are shopping with serious faces. For the fun of it, when I am walking down one the busy aisles I sometimes arbitrarily look somebody (preferably glum) in the eye and just smile and say, “good morning”. I have yet to experience a time when my greeting wasn’t returned. It sure felt good for me to be friendly and just maybe that little greeting also helped the stranger, at least for a moment.
If you are feeling moody or whatever, it is amazing how one’s state of mind can be positively improved with a simple expression of giving or receiving gratitude or a smile. Sharing a bit of love with a stranger is the easiest way to improve your spiritual consciousness. If you are regularly sharing smiles and greetings, great, if not give it a try.
Love to you all, no exceptions!
